Marriage Resources

The following are resources that I have found very helpful over the years

Books

  • The Five Love Languages: The Secret to Love that Lasts: This is a classic by Gary Chapman. People give and receive love in different ways, and it can create real tension in a marriage if you are working hard to express your love to your spouse (for example, by yard work) when their core love language is something completely different (like time on the couch together). It’s a simple concept but can really help a couple. It will give you insight into your children as well.
  • His Needs Her Needs: Building a Marriage that Lasts: I try to get every engaged couple I council to read this book by William F. Harley. His concept of the Love Tank can save your marriage from an affair. Harley also explores the typical top ten (differing) needs of a man and a woman.
  • Love and Respect: The Love She Desires, The Respect He Needs: Reveals the secret to couples meeting each other’s deepest needs–without love, she reacts without respect, and without respect, he reacts without love, and a painful, negative cycle begins.
